The same thing happens in the mornings on the road when guys go jogging and wagter is jogging with, without a leash.

On the positive side, they do give good interval training smiley36.gif

It is not always that easy to find the owner to kick him ! A good kick does wonders for a dogs manners , the dog up the road that use to chase me stopped doing it and just sits there and wags it's tail when I go pass now . If the dog bite you or causes an accident then you CAN sue and you should . Can't believe you people don't belong to some sort of legal aid !!!?

I carry a small shock stick. Its the size of a cigarette pack and pushes out 1.8million volts. The noise it makes when activated normally chases the dogs away, or halts them immediately. The best part is that if the dog owner gives you a whole lot of lip, well guess what? - You have the choice to use the device again. Probably wont see them walking the dog for a while - hahaha!!!

Dont hit the dog! AngryAngry (You hit my dog I stuff you up - and I can guarantee that its the attitude of most other dog owners.) It is doing nothing wrong. Rather spray it with water or whatever is in your bottle or camelbak. Will give them a fright and they wont be too keen on chasing you again (especially if its a nice energy drink).

If you must hit something hit the owner.

I say this as a responsible pet owner who takes their dog to parks where no cyclists go and yes, I let my dog off lead.

FYI - JHB municipal by laws allow for dogs to be off lead in certain areas so check if where you are riding is one of those areas. I have zero clue which areas are off lead areas.

I am also a dog owner and if my dog bites me he is garuanteed a kick in the teeth ! If I wanted to live in a game park then I am sure that is what I would have done !

I don't mean to laugh, but I don't know what else to do. First its the roadies versus the cradle residents, now its the MT Bikers versus the dogs and there owners in the park, before you know it its going to be cyclist against cyclist. South Africa is a huge country is there not enough space for us all to share....... Before we know it, its going to be an all out war.....When I took up cycling, I was told it was a good way to relieve stresss, I am starting find it more stressfull then being in the office. Wink We even have the crimanals to watch out for, hell its a war zone out there

try riding on the braamfontein spruit!

in the afternoons you will encounter a dog walking a human at least once every 3km.

either the dogs aren't on a leash, or the leash is one of those reel-out 30m lines. either way, the dogs and the leashes will almost always run diagonally across the single tack just as you are about to pass them.

slow down, or ride over the dog, it makes no difference - the arrogant owners usually scream at you for "riding too fast" or "scaring their dogs"!

what gets me is how oblivious these people with their dogs are to the fact that the spruit is a VERY busy cycling track. they (the humans) seem to get the fright of their lives as you approach from behind.

i think i need an airhorn or something......kamikaze2009-11-12 01:44:25

LOLThis made me remember, if it wasnt for a dog chasing me on a dirt road in Seton Delaval in Ballito, I would never have known that I can push my heart rate to 110%, thats my max, never got that high again, so now I know my max is 110% (According to my Polar HRM) Also achieved 15kph to 45kph in I think it was four or five pedal strokesLOL

Look at your municipal by laws.

Good idea. But surely that would lead to a criminal charge. Can't you still go after the owner for personal injury regardless of the by-laws?

yes you can, but in court its an issue on who is in control of the dog because "my dog never usually does this" and it can be argued that the other person provoced the dog.

LOL I want to see you get rid of a rottweiler with water in his face... Will not kick a kind looking doggy just wanting to run with me - but if you have a dog hanging on your calf or ankle by his teeth you wont be too chilled about it would you.

"nice doggy - here is some water for you - wave to the owner and take off with blood filling your shoes" - nice one Clap

So after kicking the dog I will tune the owner
