JohnnyReggae Posted December 1, 2009 Share On Sunday 29th November the first Downhill Mountain Uni Champs were held in Tokai Forest. While there was a slightly lower turnout of competitors than initially expected it was still an awesome day. 5 trails were included in the Champs, with a time for each and a final combined time.Mamba, Boomslang, Downhill 1, Downhill 2, Downhill 3 Winner on the day was Johnny Cronje (WOFT on TheHub), followed veryclosely by Ethan Roberts who was only 4 seconds slower over the 5trails. Third was Alan Read from OddWheel Unicycles. I managed a 4thplace at just over 3 minutes slower than Johnny Cronje. Had my worstruns down Downhill 2 and Downhill 3 for many months. To many stupidbails including a rolling bail into the rocks on the rock garden at thetop of Downhill 2, and a face plant into the dip at the burm at thestart of Downhill 1. It's amazing what the pressure of the clock does I must say well done to Donna as the only woman tocompete on the day giving it her best, she really did well. Ouryoungest competitor was Jonathan Benjamin at 13 years old who didextremely well on his 20" Uni who ended up only 30 seconds slower thanme, which in itself is simply amazing as he had only done 3 MountainUni rides before the Downhill race, and it was on a smaller wheel than the rest of us. Hecertainly showed me a thing or two about just going for it. Was an awesome day in the end. Looking forward to the Champs in 2010 where we will hopefully have more competitors. It was loads of fun, and nerveracking racing against the clock and Ethan. All in all, a load of fun!
