wearing no helmets - agree that is crap

not stopping at robots - agree that is crap

riding MTB - WTH is your issue here?

I'm use to this behaiver from guys on road bikes and not on MTBs.

But anyway. There was a crap load of law enforcement presence on that road and I'm going to take this up with DA councilor next time I see him. I would love to see a road block for cyclists only in Cape Town for just one weekend.

Yes, having a big German with you is pretty useful in a fight, but also consider wearing a helmet to protect your head.

Yes' date=' I'm referring to all you lot that where out cycling on the coastal road between Strand and Bettys Bay today.

Thank you so much for not wearing you f&*%ing helmets. For hogging the lanes. For skipping robots. For being plain prics.

And not all of you had the desceny to stick to road bikes, some of you had to be even bigger ass wipes and do it on MTBs !!!!

I thank you all for the prime example you set for my kids today.

Even though its a public holiday it was still no excuse.
[/quote']

Ridiculous post.  The cyclists are not ambassadors and don't owe you or your kids anything. Please moderate your language tho as its a bad example to my kids (see how silly that sounds?).

If they're in your way do something about it or accept it.

Wearing helmets is personal choice as the law is unenforceable and no penalties are set for it. The vast majority of cyclists cant afford helmets and dont wear them, why get upset over a couple of middle class ones?

Why would anyone be bothered by someone not wearing a helmet unless it was regulations for a race or similar.

So Joe Low, you must have been one of those wingnuts that I saw then.

Wearing helmets is not a personal choice and how is the law unenforceable - so you are justifying all law-breaking acts as being personal choice.

And yes, I am upset with the middle class wankers as they should know better. It may be their heads but a accident affects many and not to mention the costs that we as tax payers end up paying for.

Next your going to tell me that its OK for alcohol on the beach - let the drunk guys drown themselves. At least thats one law they are enforcing.

Sportsmans Warehouse has helmets for R99.95!!! Don't come make excuses and drivvle cr*p about not wearing a helmet Angry

Next some wingnut is going to post the claim by an Australian that the strick Australian helmet laws has made hundreds of thousands of Ozzies get rid of their bikes since its inception.

The claim even goes futher and says that helmet laws are the reason why so many Ozzies are fat.

Reality check: In the 80's I lived in Oz Outback for a few years as a child and everybody wore a helmet. No helmet, no ride. Not even around the block. It was just abnormal to me not to wear my helmet and still is.

Trouble with an angry post is that if there's some validity in the points being made, it gets lost in emotion and irratonality. Invariably the angry person compounds this with further ranting & errors in their arguments.

So, no I wasnt a "wingnut" that you saw (I assume "wingnut" is some kind of insult), I've been in KZN all day, mostly watching England doing the biz in the 2nd test.

I understand that the helmet law is unenforceable because:

1. the legal bureaucracy to apply it is not in place - ie there are no penalties set;

2. it is an unfair law that can't be enforced because the vast majority of people on bicycles cannot reasonably be expected to afford helmets.

Agteros had the info on this on a previous debate and he's v sensible.

More swearing doesnt help.

Seems to me that mtbers have no legal requirement at all to wear helmets when they are not on the road.

The tax argument isnt strong. If i was goin to get upset over wastage, cyclists and helmets wud be far, far, far down on my list of offenders - same if we're looking at medical aid costs.

I wudnt want to widen this to othr issues but I didnt kno it was illegal to drink on the beach. I wudntn change my habits in light of this news.

Kieran me and Nancy hooked up with you a couple of months back, you were by yourself at the end of a lido ride and appreciated the company we bought you coffee and listened to your student stories and busines development, which was great.

Maybe "bullsh*t dude" from you is a little out of place.

And we were wearing helmets.

Joe Low

You are a true gentleman and have proven yourself capable of debating rationally at the highest level smiley20.gif

Sadly I am not capable of this smiley9.gif

As for this entire post and the ambassador issue, well not everyone who cycles is an ambassador to the sport.

I am very, very pro helmet and having had my head saved by a helmet in a 12 hour race a few years back has made me even more pro-helmet.

Saying this, we simply can't force anyone to wear a helmet, they have a choice to make and we can encourage them but we can't hold a gun to their heads.

I saw a guy in Northern Farms on Sunday without a helmet, well so much for the "no helmet, no ride" policy and this in a wll known and now well established MTB landmark.

As for "wingnuts" let me tell you what pissed me off even more, on Sunday as we returned from Hennops on an OPEN district road we approached 3 fellow MTB riders coming in our direction, my two mates and I went into single file, these prize "wingnuts" AKA a$$holes stayed next to one another virtually almost forcing us off the road and we still greeted these "tossers" just for them to return this with a "we are better than you lot" attitude.

Not long after this did I notice the helmetless man in NF on the other side of the fence, no need to guess who pissed me off more, at least man without helmet will only damage his own head when and if he goes down, as for the other three "wingnuts", well let me just say that they are prize pricks.

Hiya Summit, thanks for yours.

I'm pro-helmet too, not least cos I was with Scotty just after he T-boned a bakkie that was running an intersection during the Fountains race last year & the helmet saved him.

My issue (as you know) is people aggressively trying to enforce their views on others.

I agree with you on Ambassadors as well - I've stopped wearing a certain cycle club's golf shirt in public as i'm always accosted by polite, awkward, holding it in, people who want to tell me of their experiences of us on the road and seeking explanations of our behavior.
