jmaccelari Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Get a cyclocross bike and get the best of worlds!! I am - can't wait until I get it next year!!! Have also been playing around with this notion. Are you looking locally or to bring one in yourself?Omnico brings them in - GT and Scott. Apparently the GT is the better bikeand you can talk to someone like West Rand Cycles...

Interested for the feedbackIt's not a "hybrid". A hybrid has straight (MTB) bars on a road racing frame, typically with road racing tyres and wheels.. Cyclocross is a full road racing bike format, but with a slightly less aggressive geometry to allow for control off road, a stronger frame to handle the bumps and much stronger wheels (typically with about a35mm tyre).

Otherwise I will ask him over breakfast after our ride tomorrow and report back.[/quote']Apparently Jules klaps the ous at the Delta night races on his...
jmaccelari Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks' date=' but how good would that be on the dirty stuff? It looks a bit Frail (not taking the pi$$, seriously wondering)[/quote']They are pretty strong. They are not full MTBs, so don't try a 10'drop off, but you'll be amazed at what the guys can do withthe things on the European circuit...
EigerSA Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Did a bit of reading up on cyclocross and not only it the bike different (onroad bike for dirt) but the racing itself is very unusual in that obstacles are placed on the course specifically to force riders off their bikes in order to run a bit. On top of that the course are normally short laps and you basically race flat-out for about an hour or thereabouts. Some really fun videos to look at here...
