disk brake calibration

Hey all need some help

Just got a new bike (very new at MB) and the bike came with juicy 3.5's

Please not asking for opinions on juicy 3.5's. and I just can't get the discs to stop rubbing. I have read the manual and even taken the bike to LBS were i bought the bike (they said it was perfect bah) I dont feel like going back

The manual says i must loosen certain bolts on the brake slightly then pump the brake 5 times then hold and tighten the bolts to toque spec.

Please would a hubber explain this in simpler terms, do i need some type of torque wrench with measurements on. Who has has done this please help

Hey Slogger, you should see 2 bolts that connect the entire break system to the fork / frame.

Loosen them to the point where the the sytem can move freely.

I like to turn the wheel, do not know why but I do, then break the wheel whith the break lever.

Do this twice and hold the break lever completely depressed.

Tighten the 2 bolts ( I do not use TW personally)

You should agree that the break pads should now by evenly spaced and in line with the disc.

PS: I did mine yesterday when installing my new pads and she is fine.

Good luck

TW is a torque wrench perfect just hand tighten and off we go. This should align the brake pads so now drag great. I dont have bike work stand so i it alright to do this with the bike upside down resting on the handlebars and seat

Books tend to complicate things a bit. Did mine upside down with daughter holding back break for me. Took all of 5 minutes to do both.

Had a similar problem. Also was told same BS at bike shop. Managed to solve the problem on my own. The procedure mentioned above may not work because one side of the brake pads is touching the disc. It may not be able to centre the pads. Just check which side it is touching. You may need to add or remove a washer to allow the brake to centre. Worked for me.

Remeber that even if you have the best equipment and it is not set up correctly by the "experts" it is not the equipments fault.

I am sure once sorted you will be happy with the performance.

Hope your fix works out.
