I must agree. After using polar and Garmin Soft straps, i find this to be the most reliable. Never misses a heartbeat and in never affected by sweat, moisture, etc. using mine for 3 years now without issue.

Its really not necessary to know your blood type. If you are in an accident and need blood in an emergency, then you will be given O- blood. The casualty departments only have emergency supply of O- blood as it can be used universally to all blood types. If it is less urgent, than a sample of your blood will be sent to the blood bank, tested for your blood group, cross matched with donor blood ( This checks that there is no reaction between your blood and donor blood) and sent to the casualty. Even if you know your blood group, this procedure will be done everytime you need blood. That said, I would encourage everybody to become a donor.

I think there is still room for the LBS if you find the right one. I normally deal with Fareed at Westdene Cycles. I have struck up a good relationship with him and he has given me good service. When I need something, I usually phone him. If he does not have the part then I ask him for a quote. Within a day or two I get a call from him and then I give him the go ahead to order. This is followed by a call when the part arrives. I have ordered a few items this way and he has always come through.

Emperors Palace is fast and flat. You are overthinking this race. The bunch pretty much remains intact the whole way. Just get to the front to stay out of trouble. If you get dropped, than just form another group with those that got dropped with you, or latch onto the next bunch. A sub 3 from DL or EL should not be an issue. As for being overweight, that should not be an issue in this race. There are very few hills that would separate the anorexics from the fatties.

Anybody riding this bike will need to ride with a Camelback as well. No space for a bottlecage.

Just saying, thinking like a thief, if I had a stolen high end bike that I needed to move, I would not put it on a bike rack for the whole world to see. I would remove the wheels and put it inside the Minibus.

I think you would do well to get R 20 000 for that bike. Perhaps sell the Garmin separately. Good luck with the sale.

R28 000 is too much for that bike. I bought the same model brand new 3 years ago for R27 000. The frame does not come with a warantee as its second hand, the 10 speed is outdated and you cannot get a replacement 10 speed Di2 derailleur if anything goes wrong with it. Its a great bike, but you will not sell it at that price.

Also Rode in CL. (Was probably seeded above my ability by a group or 2) Was very hairy initially, and saw 2 crashes. The group was twitchy early on with constant breaking. Managed to hang on to the main bunch until the 50km mark. Got dropped at 50km. We then formed a smaller bunch and picked up stragglers as we continued. Was much more enjoyable in the smaller "chase group" The guys worked well together with most pulling in the front then allowing the next guy to take over. One guy took over the organisation and marshaled the troops. Felt much safer in the smaller group. Eventually got dropped from the chase group and limped home in 2h39. Nice race, well organised.
