I need to get new rims for my old faithfull Moab2(low hours so dont want to upgrade bike for a while).I am so lost with names and brands and weights and tubeless and what not! Can anyone advise on a "well priced", "lightish" rim to use for my XC racing.(I do realise you cant have light and cheap but somewhere in the middle will do).I don't want to convert to discs either because my V's work very well.(except when very muddy obviously, but we dont live in Europe). Thanks for any help.

my brother gave up cycling 2 years ago and has top range Rolf Vector & Mavic crossmax tubless sets lying in his garage next to his TREK 8000 21.5" farmgate - I'll ask him if he wants to sell and how much.

I spoke to him - and he is not interested in selling them - he says he is gonna get his fat 140kg ass on the bike again this year

The best rim for any money is a DRC MT-17.

Period.

It only costs R380 (or thereabouts).

I've build several like that for guys in the EC. Whereabouts are you?

JB, rough estimate on a complete wheel? I'm also interested as I need a 2nd set. Hate switching tyres between commuting and MTBing.

Currently have stock Alex Rims (Giant Rock) - also V's

Look at the Shimano 565 wheels. V brake and disc compatible. Fairly strong and does not weigh a ton (at least lighter than the Alex rims that came standard with my Schwinn Mesa.)

Any rim that is not built by a proper wheelsmith will be useless.

The DRC rims are awesome. We have them on our MTB tandem as well on one of our Road Tandems.

Go to www.yellowsaddle.co.za for a proper wheelsmith. You will be a very happy person oif you find your own guru........ or alternatively you can learn to build your own wheelsest. This can be verrrrry satisfying!!!!!!!!
