I think the Merida will last longer while the Scott will be faster thats my thinking seeing that I have ridden those brands, If you live near the coast never buy a Scott non carbon frame, the sea air will chow them to bits!

I have the previous years' 96 model... you won't be sorry ! Dare I say that it will outlast the rider? I also have the XL, seems to handle my 100kg on rowwe downhills very well when it takes a heck of a beating !

This is SOOO f-ing annoying! I finally have the money I need to buy my 96' date=' and now Merida suppliers are out of stock. Apparently only getting my size (XL) in at end of month!!! Been waiting for 2 weeks now, another 3 weeks of waiting ahead. Eish. Thought that the Attakwas would be the retirement race for my Hard Tail, but had to do the MTB argus on it as well (not fun!). Can't wait for the damn thing to arrive! KOM NOU!!! smiley17.gif [/quote']

I feel your pain , I ordered mine in December and got it the friday before Sabie ( but its soooo worth the wait ). These bikes are super popular and the only way to get your hands on one is to pre book it.

Interesting reading as I am in the same positon and rying to decide.

The one thing I notice is that in all the replies 'no one' seems to have bought a Scott 35!!

I have had a look around JHB and can find several Merida 3000's but Scotts and especially Scott 35's seem to be like hens teeth!

Both are awesome looking bikes and specs are pretty much the same but what I like about the Scott is the carbon frame and the twinloc seems to works really well. I like the slightly harder setup on the Merida for racing but the Scott is more forgiving and the riser bars give it an easier riding position.

Could not find a website for Gecko Cycles and could not find any bikes on the CWC site?? Cycle Factory do have quite a good price on the 96 3000 though.

Norm, one thing is a given in this quest of yours, and that is you will not be sorry you bought a Merida !!

I have owned more than 30 odd bikes in my riding / racing time and this bike is up there with the best.
