I am looking at putting Conti's on my 29er.  I have a few questions:

1. Race King back and Mountain King front?

2. How good are the side walls, do the cut?

3. How good are the tires themselves, do they cut?

4. Do they convert to tubeless easily?

Thanks for the help.

Answers:

1: yes very good set up 2.4 MK front 2.2 RK rear

2+3:Any tyre will cut if you ride over glass etc, I have been running the supersonic tyres with no hassles and I know people who ahve had the UST version and cut them.

4:the conversion depends on the rim as with any tyre, if its loose on the rim you'll struggle...

Techguy - Why put the fatter tyre on the front?  is it reccomended as a result of the forces placed on it by cornering etc?

I happened to ride over a bottle on my 29er and gaffed the sidewall (Back Tyre).  I bought a new tyre and it was thinner than what i had - my mistake.. So I figured - Thin up front and switched them around.

I had a niggly feeling that the fatter one may be better in front but i switched them anyway.  I reckon I will reswitch (is that a word) and try it out.

Contis have a version called "Protection". Their sidewalls are like the road Gatorskin's. They are a bit heavier and more expensive. If you can, look for Speedking at the back.
