but how does it work in reality ... if it is a program how does it register itself  - surely you need someone to enter names ?

The simplest solution would be to not allow newbies to post in any forum except for a newbies section.  After 10 post they can post in other sections.

but how does it work in reality ... if it is a program how does it register itself  - surely you need someone to enter names ?

 

Since it's automated, it might be worth adding a hidden field to the registration process. Since the spambot automatically fills in a form,  any application with the hidden field checked is simply discardd.

what about one of those windows with a series of numbers and letters that you have to type in before you can go any further?

Is this also "spam" or what is my problem ?   My hotmail account has "automated vacation replies" that each time I log in there is some sales crap in it and it is on, sending it to everyone in my mail contacts.   I deleted and deactivate it each time but next time I log in there is some other stuff activated on it again.   Anyone with an idea to how to sort this out please ? Angry
