HI,

I am thinking about powder coating my MTB rims (disc).  Has anybody done it before?  Any advice on the subject?

My biggest worry is the following:

1)  The heat associated with "baking" the rims

2)  That the tire might not sit correctly / as snug as previous on the rim

Any advice on the subject will be appreciated - Thanks fellow Hubbers!

Not to mention the spoke holes will all have to be masked off/cleaned out after. You can (as far as I'm aware) mask off areas so the powder doesn't stick, the heat I don't think will be a big issue...

If they are non-eyeletted rims I see no problem whatsoever. Powdercoating doesn't require much heat and it won't affect the alu at all.

I don't like powdercoating on bike parts since the stuff isn't UV stable, in my experience. It becomes dull very quickly.

I would certainly give it a go. Sounds funky (if you don't make them black, that is).

You gonna make your rims heavier and the extra weight will be inversely proportional to the square root of the hub weight(minus one) all multiplied by  infinity. Add to that the extra gyroscopic effect and you are likely to get whiplash when going around corners(your neck might even break).

Believe me, don't do it, theres a whole thread on it somewhere here that proves my theorems.
