Hi All, my edge 305 intermittently switches off by itself. Is there anybody who has had the same issue and corrected it. Please let know.

It is fully charged, so it's not battery related.

thanks, thys

Well I phoned Garmin and the tech did not sound like he was going to replace it for me. In fact this is also my second unit.  They replaced the first one having the same problem but it was still under guarentee.cyclingfan2010-01-13 08:29:58

ask them if they will do a warranty upgrade for you since it is a known fault.

teissue is not firmware related at all. Its hardware.

Ask nicely if they wil do a warranty upgrade for you. get a Edge 705. Its a much much better device

I had the same problem before, and more recently. I have my 3rd unit, all ehicjh had the same problem, so I didn't even bother to return it. Decided should the unit start switching off again, I will try to fix it myself. Mine started switching off 4-5 times during a ride.

I followed the instuctions on the motionbased thread, opened up my unit, added a rubber spacer underneath the contacts, bend the other springs upward, and closed the unit. Took me less than 10 minutes, and problem fixed for good!! Apparantly the contacts loose their bouancy and then starts to lose contact. I believe mine is good to go for a couple of years.

I will try reset and firmware, although I have already and still not fixed. I will try again and see.

I would have expected Garmin to offer to do the fix, seems like its a design problem with the unit.

My Garmin edge 305 also has something wrong with it.

It works for a while untill i need to charge it up again. It says its charging but once its finished charging i try to swich it on but nothing goes on. After about 12 hours I try swich it on again and it goes on for like a second so i charge it up and it works!!! When its back on low again and i need to charge it the whole cycle happens again. Really gets on my nerves.
