On my SS, I'm using WTB Speedisk's which were the standard wheel when I purchased my Peace. Don't know if the are available separate here though.

On my Scandal, I had a set custom built for me and all parts are locally available. Hope Pro 2's on Velocity Blunts with DT Swiss spokes and nipples.

I am using the American Classics - riding for about 6 weeks now - no problems, and very light

Mine is standard with the AC hubs etc, not like Anton's who is using another hub and spoke, but same rims

I am using custom yellow saddle built wheels consisting of ZTR 355 rims and Shimano SLX 29er specific hubs on my SS.

At the end of January Cape Cycles and Planet X will have the new American Classic UST wheels in white. They will be good value for money. I have ordered a pair for my geared Scandal 29er.

The XT's are good value but I have not seen them locally. You can get from CRC for about R4000.00 but the sell out like hot cakes.

The big daddy of the 29er wheels are the Mavic C29ssmax wheels. They are available locally but they are going to be expensive (they cost almost R7000 on CRC) so locally the price is going to hurt.

Thanks for all the responses....

I agree that the Mavic C29ssmax would have been first prize. But R7000 will let me sleep on the couch with the wheels to keep my warm. lol

Other options:

Velocity Blunts with XT hubs... Saw on ebay for $200.

Velocity Blunts supplied by my LBS... Dont know which hubs and what colour rims. I need black rims... Silver or white will not cut it.

Sun Ringle Disc O Flea 29" on CRC for R4086. Looks good and can't find allot of bad press in the forums on them. They are also light.

The Shimano XT 29er wheels is out of stock on CRC :(

I bought a frame(HT) from the states. But do have a problem. I can just support my LBS and let them build it and buy all the other bids from them. But that might limit me to wheel choice. Or... Buy the rest on-line ? But I don't have all the know-how to put an MTB together. Or do I ? Any volunteers ?
