I have new sram x.0 gripshifts and new fd and rd.

Still waiting for new frame, but I want to install the new gears

on my old bike.

Is it ok to use my old gearcable housings and if so, what do

I need to know to install them? clean housing, lube??

gearcable don;t wear, gear housing does.

You can use the new stuf with old housings but cleaning won;t help anything. Just install and live with problems if they arise.

Changing gear cables and housings takes me about 15mins. Honestly, its probably the cheapest and quickest way to have trouble free gear changes.

Gooi new housing. It's cheap, easy and effective.

If you really, really can't, for reasons of poverty, difficulty of getting some special ferrules, out in the sticks etc, you can blow some Q20 through the old housing and chase it out with compressed air, before installing new cable.

I've got a small angle grinder, put a thin blade on, and it cuts the housings cleanly and with a minimum of fuss. I just used a pair of sharp sidecutters before, cut cleanly and quickly, and then use a sharpened spoke to clean the  casing.

I have a dremel to cut the housing' date=' but what about the end caps on the housing.

I already have the caps for the cables.[/quote']

you can just remove the old ones or buy new ones for about 50c ea.
