What are the feeling from the people her about putting tire liners in a road bike.

I?m not a pro but like doing races.Embarrassed

Nope, have also only heard bad things about this.......................

Rather get better training tyres, they tend to be heavier due to them having more rubber on the surface that comes in to contact with the road

dont do it, i did, my tubes lasted a whole 70kms and i had blow outs, the rolling resistance is much greater, you will feel the lack of speed as well, it's not worth it.

The stans in roadbike tubes works good. Finding a tube with a removeable core is not so easy. Otherwise try the Specialized Airlock tubes.

I always wonder why so much fuss is made of punctures on road bikes.  On average I get a punture every 5000km, most of which is commute on city streets full of glass.  I use my old race tyres (Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps) until the rubber is practically worn off.  Doesn't seem worthwile to make any special effort regarding punctures.

I only use Conti tubes, they can all unscrew. Think they go for R30 per tube, so not to expensive either. Linnega, you clearly don?t stay in the Western Cape, we got duiweltjies and they are every were we also have lots of Party ppl throwing bottles out of windows leaving the roads full of glass especially after Friday and Saturdays...you probably have those to<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Ouch

That said, the duiweltjie season seems to be on a dicline as I've not had a puncture in ages (touch wood), I also bought some "training" tyres, the Conti UltraSports at R125, every cheap and seems to be holding up!

Thanks guys,

Now that u mention inflating to the correct pressure do you deflate the tires a bit after the race or do you store your bikes at full pressure.

Gman - I've never even thought of doing that - if you leave them they'll go softer over time, I check my pressure every other week just to top it up again.

I normally check my tyres before a ride and pick out bits of glass etc with a small flat jewellers screwdriver. You'd be surprised at what you'll find embedded in your tyres just waiting to ruin your ride ... I'm using Conti Ultra Sport tyres and since they are made of fairly a soft rubber they seem to pick up quite a lot of "stuff". I'm thinking of changing over to another make/model tyre.

If you got tubbies its a good idea to let down the pressure.  Also-try riding and 28's instead of 23's when train. works 2-fold. more resistance and stronger, tougher tyre.

SeanMort, I also use UltraSports now so I know how they compare to lets say Conti's Force and Attacks, the UltraSport tyre are HARD compared to the more expensive tyres, trust me on that.
