Hi Guys

Building up a 29er' date=' got SIR 9 frame and XT groupset so far.
Any advise on what wheelset?

What are you after? Weight weenie or reliability?

Weight weenie I reckon the AM Classics are wicked and reliability the Shimano XT equivalent 29er tubeless. Or you can middle gournd it and buy some Velocity Blunt or VXC rims from Coolheat and build your own (SLX/XT hubs).

I'm on XTR/Velocity VXC and after 16 months of heavy training and racing they're still holding up well...

Thanks Eldron

Think middle ground sounds good. Shimano XT and Velocity VXC.

Any idea how much do a set of American Classics cost?

Here is the weight of mine. It is a little heavier now as i have put on some chunky 2.25 tires.

The frame is a bit "Porky'?

But it sounds like a good mix

Now order yourself one of the new 999 cassettes from sram. 175 grams

due here end March

can drop 100 gr in one quick move.

Approx R2k

I agree the frame is heavy, I was expecting it to be lighter. She rides like a dream even though it is a touch on the heavy side.

I will never spend 2K on a cassette, as i replace them to often. The same goes for chains

I ride XTR cass. and change chains every 1000km and have not needed cass. change in 2 years.

But that is a seriously sexy cassette, same machining as the xx one.

They say 9 hrs on the cnc machine per unit!!???

The hassle I have with 980 and xt cassettes is that the 2nd and 3rd gears tend to bend.Have also done this with 990.No such problems with XTR and I recon its not possible with the new Sram ones.

Got a Gary Fischer Superfly not really built lite at 11.3kg ready to ride' date=' and a Ellsworth at 13.2kg full suss.

So which one are you doing Epic on?

I would suggest leaving the cruz at home, the rocks in Ceres area are gonna Chow the carbon down tube.

After the latest upgrades incl Crest 29er rims and Formula R1 brakes. My Stumpjumper is down to 9.22kg.

That includes everything and race ready. with pedals, CS600 with cadence and bottle cage.

Anyone out there with a lighter fully geared 29er?

My Cannondale Flash carbon 29er 1 weighs 9.8kg as ridden (tubeless with sludge). Would love to know at what price all the mentioned sub-10kg 29ers came in at?
