Hey guys, needing help again Ouch

I have a spez E5 s-works and the headset was poked, so I googled some stuff and found that the spez mindset it was running has an extra set of cups mounted in teh frame which needed to be knocked out so that a normal integrated headset could be fit.

I did this without much hassle and then fitted the headset.

Only problem is it was slight slighty "loose" ie if I grabbed the front brakes and pushed back and forth I could feel a bit of play. So I tightened the top cap fairly tight before tightening the stem bolts. The problem is that the fork is quite tight now and its not easy to turn it from side to side. If I loosen the top cap again it gets the play back. Its a nightmare to try and ride with the fork so tight and the bike feels like it wants to jump into the middle of the road eveytime I push hard.

Am I doing something wrong with the fitment of it?

It is difficult to diagnose that problem remotely, but I'll give it a try. To me it sounds like there is a part missing or misplaced. Something bottoms out when you tighten it and it is not the bearing. Perhaps, if you observe the spaces between the crown race and head tube, and the equivalent on top as you tighten it, you may notice something.

I had the exact same problem and it turned out to be the crown race. Fit the crown race that comes with the headset. Oh yes, and remove the bottom dust seal of the headset....that will return the streering to "power-assisted" feel...Approve

Its quite weird because the crown race for the bottom of the fork doesnt fit. The fork seems to have a tapre of sorts making the base quite wide. If I ift the bottom bearing on to the wider point on the fork then it fits quite tight. The only thing is that the race which came with the headset and slides over the steerer tube doesnt get down to the bottom of the tapre. I think its probably because of that.

Now I need to try and find a new one of sorts that will fit snugly with the bearing :(
