Mike,

I know you're doing a heck of things to promote tandem cycling in SA. And believe me, it must be rated as an extreme-sport. Unfortunately. The days tandem cycling were part of the SA track champs for instance, mindblowing. There can be nothing more serious when you start winding the train up to overtake someone. Especially on the track.

Scary!

What happened with the entries for SA's this year?

I know for a fact know that CSA made provision for tandems. The entries they recieved were far and in between. Why?

Please let me know. I personally think tandems deserves a place on the planet.

Scary, but exciting.

Thanks Gift. - I launched TCSA (TandemCyclingSA) to promote the sport and break down any associated fears. It is also my intention to form Club TandemCyclingSA later in this year and have representation at Provincial level as the numbers warrant it. My database for Cape Town is over 100 tandems and my estimations based on attendances at major rides is that there are about 600 ? 800 active tandems teams.

SA?s? Cannot answer that one but I can tell you that I have sent CSA a friendly letter from TCSA expressing my disappointment at the cancellation and my willingness to ensure that this never happens again by using TCSA as body to represent tandems in South Africa.

CSA answer, not yet as I letting the new committee find their feet and will be following up a little later.

I am in Sa at the moment but will send you some poctures of our travelling arrangements. Currently I use a Geoff carrier for three bikes. I just strap the upright to the back of the bakkie with a ratchet strap and use a lot of bungee rubbers. I travelled form Mozambique to ARGUS and back in March, a total of 7900km with no problems.

I also have a self made frame on the trailer to carry one Tandem and two half a bikes.

With the two tandems I will now have to modify the carrier.

Regards

H

For me i just load it on the back of the bakkie flap open and locked in with a holdfast bracket for the fork, also use some bungee cords.

On occasions i have removed the wheels and packed it into a well known trailer the ventertjie, this works but one has to ensure that the bike is well protected when placing it inside.

The other method is as mentioned by Oom Big H with a rack on a trailer.

We build a trailer only for the bikes. Worked good for short time because you don't have to struggle to get your bike on a bakkie after a 100K+.

It was made for a tandem and about 3 other singles, but I know we once took down 2 tandems and 3 singles. (Lets just say it was not pretty)

Just take a axle from a Venter, build a basic frame and buy a few Hold Fast Brackets.

Easy as that
