Jeffrsnapln Posted March 15, 2010 Share I have a 2009 GT avalanche 2. I'd like to start slowly upgrading bits and pieces if / when budget allows. What should I be looking out for first? Current specs are: Suntour XCR-LO fork Tektro Auriga Comp Hydraulic Disc Brakes. 8 Speed Alivio shifters, Shimano SLX rear derailleur Shimano FC- M311 Crankset 42/32/22 Octalink. 11-32 eight speed cassette. AndreZA Posted March 15, 2010 Share Upgrade only when it's worn out and time to replace. No need to waste money. I would go 9 spd first. Shifters (SLX), casette and chain is all you need.
Mudsimus Posted March 15, 2010 Share Id do the drivetrain. You already have the SLX der, so just slap on a 9sp cassette, chain and shifters.

SwissVan Posted March 15, 2010 Share Fork.Keeping in mind the impending 2x 10 revolution which is apparently coming I would do the drive chain last or when it is kaputski.....
gummibear Posted March 15, 2010 Share Save your money and in 2 years buy another bike.. Very good advice.don't get bitten by the upgrade bug it can be very expensive to treat.Wait a while and ride what you have.
Procrates Posted March 15, 2010 Share If all your parts are in good condition start with the suspension, it will be the most noticable.?Depending on your budget get something 2nd hand on the hub, get one of the RST's from kiwi or hold on until Suntour launches their new one (heard it will be coming in at 1.6kg's at a vey good price). Weight Weenie Posted March 16, 2010 Share The fork, then go tubeless, get the bike setup right and then maybe some lighter wheels ?
