Greets new to the forum, and new to MTB, and the Daunting world behind it.

I on an impulse decided to get rid of the belly development, and I am now looking to buy two decent starter MTB's.

The initial thought was just too buy two cheapies for the holiday, then as it became clearer that my girlfriend would like to go on regular beginner / intermediate trails. I started thinking something a little better might be in order.

Hence phoned up my LBS, and they suggested I get two Silverback Reno's. (Now keep in mind I know jack about MTB's) i took a look at it and it looks decent enough at what seems to be a good price for a starter bike.

Though the more i do research the more I get info on the GT avalanche, and what a good starter bike that is. Till i realized that nobody has written any reviews or comments anywhere on the Silverback throughout the internet.

Can anybody maybe offer a review or some handy advise, ill probably shoot of to buy the bikes this weekend before i go on holiday.

Hi Covie, welcome to the HUB, hope to see you here more often now that you are taking up MTB'ing Thumbs%20Up.  My friend has a 2006 Reno.  This bike has taken some real abuse seeing that he also does MX offroading (KX250F).  If you look after the bike, clean it after every dirt ride, make sure it's lubed up at all times, and take it for a regular service at your LBS, then this is a very decent bike to get.  It has the 24 speed drivetrain, a shock with lockout (XCM V2's if I'm not mistaken) and has a solid build.  You can always upgrade later, or if you think that the sport is going to get a hold of you, then also look at the Silverback Alpine.  It's has disc brakes, and a better shock XCM HLO, and also it has the Ovaltch 2 frame which is lighter and more rigid.  I personally think Silverback is the best value for money you can buy in SA, they are made here and most dealers can get parts or replacement components for your bike.

Good luck with the buy, sure your heart will tell you what to take...

Thanks I got my shiney new toy and took it out for a test at Dirtopia, and I have to say I'm impressed with the bike considering the relativly small investment it took.

.

Though I am probably in no position to review a bike since Ive only just started, but it seems rugged enough, gears shift instantly and seamlessly all and all it was great fun.

Xcept........ Now my butt hurts like hell Ouch
