Dirtbreath,

I had some guys in Durban build me a Li-ion 14.8v 4000mAh battery, cost including a 800mah charger was just over R 1150

There are guys in Benoni - Just Batteries that I'd use in future.

Wonder if its really worth it?

Not unless you're into building random stuff.

Even if you are big into diy, the only thing that makes it worth it is being able to say: "I made that."

LEDs: $4 - $16

Driver: $2 - $80

Lens: $2 - $15

Plugs and buttons etc: $5 - $20

Kay so it should be possible to get the guts for a single LED light at around $15... You can also get a XRE Q5 flashlight from DX for $13... so... is it worth it?

DirtBreath,

MaxUmis is right, it isn't a cheap exercise and the only point of the exercise is to say "I made it".

Granted the light output is far superior to anything on the market but If you have that type of money to spend (+- R3k) and you are not good with electronics, rather go and buy one of BL's lights.
