This is from the finish at Loudenville looking back up to the summit of Col de Peyresourde in the distance (red arrow), gives an idea of the height of the climbs and don't forget this is the last of five.

Just heard from straatvark.  He missed the cut off and did 12:10, but got a medal at least!  Not bad for a guy who rode the Etape on a MOUNTAIN BIKE!Clap

My wife spent the day with Mrs Straatvark, I didn't want to post anything on his behalf but that was bad luck. I take my hat off to him for even finishing on a MTB and making it past the cut off's. Clap

Anyway now he can relax and enjoy the Mountain Biking in Spain.

He sounds chuffed though and complained about the altitude of 1350m (hey, it's Cape Town here bru).  Said he was finished and it was incredibly tough (as it should be!).  Still a very happy man

hats of to BOTH finishers (making cut off is unimportant full stop, never mind an mtb!!!)
