stewie911 Posted May 10, 2010 Share Theoretical - For ever(almost) I bought my roadbike second hand and have done about 3500km on the second hand chain. Keep it clean and well lubed and it should last 10 000km+ This is of course not always practical/possible. Anyone want to disagree with me? Minion Posted May 10, 2010 Share Anyone want to disagree with me?Me . Nothing lasts forever. I agree, though: road stuff lasts a damn long time when well cared for. I have two chains, each with around 5,000km and neither shows any measurable signs of wear yet. MTB stuff won't last that long because of the dirt, but I don't really do enough MTB miles to say how long a chain should last. I would think about checking it after 3,500km though.
