Hi all,

does anyone know the difference between the shimano R600 and 105/ultegra.

cheers

It's all about the final finished product..... as technology advances, so it gets passed down the ranks - Dura Ace to Ultegra to 105 to Tiagra to Sora (I think 600 is after that- not too sure)

I can compare the two sets of wheels I have - one hub is 105 and the other is Ultegra. You can feel the bearings rolling in the 105 hub but absolutely nothing in the Ultegra.

Hope it helps.... maybe someone more clued up could help.

p.s. If you looking at buying, a wise person told me that 105 should be your entry level benchmark but not to try go better if your budget doesn't allow for it.

The R600 is a non-groupset component, generally in the quality range of 105 / older Ultegra. Basically created as an aftermarket compact crank that will match any groupset. I run one on my road bike and have been very happy with it.

I'm looking at either the Shimano R600 compact or the FSA equivalent. Still trying to decide.

You're not gonna find new FSA components in this country. There's are no agents for it.

R600 is Ultegra level cranks. They also make the shorter reach shifters in that range.

Ya I know. Will get from chain reaction.

Havent made up my mind on which compact crankset I want yet.

My other options is to find good secondhand ones.
