Myself and another team member of ours did our first baviaans with the Magiclights, yes it ran down but what light would not running half the night, but it NEVER died on us, I think you should check at how you manage it.Another team member rode with Cateye and I think the moon were brighter at the end.

By died i mean broken, not battery life.

None of my lights died in Trans Baviaans... some has done their 4 Trans Baviaans this year...

I can tell you why many more Magicshines WILL go wrong at some stage... see photos of a STD Magicshine I opened... one little pull on the cable and the housing will cut right through the insulation and create a short... POOR soldering... one component isn't even soldered...

It's all over the web.. just search... people still praising them are too ignorant to realise what they're dealing with...

Just imagine your light going dead at 50km/h... pretty sure the light's not gonna feel any pain...

hahaha!

I have also heard about 3 fortuners that flipped this last week. Therefor all toyotas are badly designed.

Mine died after running it on full for about 40 minutes and on dim for about 4 hours during the baviaans and another hour afterwards on dim. (I was past the finish line and kept my lights on to see how much time was left on them). I also had better light than my riding partner, who rode with a hope 2 and hope 4 setup (cost was approx double what I paid). I had a spare battery in case which was not neccecary in the end.

Also note that there were a crowd of peeps that imported the lights directly from overseas, so to be fair. Ask the 3 riders with problems if these came from local distribution or not.

I heard that their service was great during the event. I never used the charging stations that they provided (I got to Bergplaas in daylight and at Kondomo our vehicle was about 1 km past the checkpoint and I didn't feel like doing any extra distance) but spoke to friends that used the battery swap service and the free recharge service.

my only slight issue is with the o ring mounting and I saw earlier that Magiclight is already looking into a solution here as well.

Here is my shameless attempt to get hits on my youtube clip, but it will illustrate the point about good quality lights that I had for baviaans.

MorewoodMad, The local guy selling them are buing them from the same place the direct buyers are buying it from at half the price. They all came from the same factory and there are local sellers that will try to make you belive otherwise.

Dude, that music is terrible!!!

It was our official Baviaans Trance song for 2010 (mate of mine had it last year for their official song). It was stuck in my head for 14h30 minutes. We started humming the tune spontaniously during the race and broke the silence with

" are you threatening me"

" i call it the sfere of fear or planet death!"

" i've been working on this for quite some time"

and "you too can have this power"

We heard a lot about how good the Magiclight are. Lets hear the other side aswell.I myself know of 3 that died with the Baviaans.

Interesting topic fastbike...

I know of 2 MAGICLIGHTs which died on the Trans Baviaans. And that's really not a bad statistic considering the ratio of Magiclights to all other lights that were used (I wish I knew those stats). There were LOTS of them!!

Now all you need to do is go and ask those 2 riders what happened (I didn't get their names unfortunately), and how their problems were dealt with - in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere.

It was a simple case of having their light swapped out immediately for a brand new one, no questions asked!!

Maybe you should email Dealextreme and ask them to send someone along to provide roadside assistance for their product at the 2011 Trans Baviaans.

Like i said,i'm not only talking about the Baviaans. But hey, between the 2 of us we already know about 5 that died.Does your roadside assistance include morning training rides aswell, thats were you dont want the light to die on you.

I have learned somethings about them.

The light head of the MS900 it self have a prodcution flaw in.

There is 2 resistors that have to handle more power than they are rated for. Now depending of the condition of how this go bad it could just go dead of cause other components also to get hurt. The 2 resistors is easy to replace if you can do some electronics.

Then on the older one the plug has to problems. The one is that the point is all metal at the front so you could short the battery accidently. Then the correct its inside breaks a little and then does not make good contact. That becomes evident if you ride a really bump bit and the light goes switchs off. Also potenially bad contact could make that your battery is not charged well. My solution was to take the extention leads, which has a better plug, and replace the lead of the light.

Then the battery. I have seen packs that breaks. I think the managment circuit might not be up to scratch. I have had a battery and charger packing up at the sametime. Now one could have cause the other but which I do not know. If the charger or battery goes there is not much you can do. Just replace it.
