XC bike choices for Epic?

I'm having difficulty deciding which XC bike to buy. I'm riding the Epic next year so I'm looking for a FS in the range of R22 000.

I have a Scott Spark 35 at the moment but after the third time it broke I decided to get something reliable.

Buy a Morewood Zula frame and build it up with your old components and then replace the components bit by bit as the cash flow allows. I am loving the ride comfort the Zula gives. Oh yes it also climbs like a demon on steroids.

Zula sounds interesting. What about a 29er for the EPIC?

I've settled for the 2011 Merida Ninety-Six 1200D. It will hopefully be here next week before the Marrick MTB Challenge.

29er was great (did the 2010), especially on the railway line...

will battle with the R22k, but Specialised Epic is about R30k

Giant Anthem 29er will be here in a few weeks, full xt bike is @ 29k i believe.

I must go with Tarmac-SL3 - the Ghost RT Lector 7400 is the best money can buy with full XT 10spd carbon Dual suss - XT wheels etc...!! Awesome bike and good looking as well!!!
