Nope Crack, that was at AGS. In his first post he said that the Rudy's were between R2100 and R2400.

Your Rx photochromic glasses at that price I think are comparitively much better value for money. I may pm you to find out more details.

No probs - little bit of research, time & effort saved me a bundle. ;)

I did, he said R5000 for the prescription lenes alone - My new adidas Rx ready full presciption photochromic lenses with Adizero frames are costing me R2100 :D There is now way I would get anything like that from rudy project- Youre paying for the name, its funny that there are so many sales on Rudy glasses  Please dont think Im havin a go at you, but they are just way overpriced.

Appreciate the feedback. Rudy is not cheap - we will be the first to admit it. We are convinced however that they offer something extra - it is philosophy that we have had to get used to by the Italian owners - Rudy Barbazza has stated on many occasions that "he does not want to be the biggest, only the best". As a distributor we sometimes wish they will move production to China and make simpler moulds and do less research and testing because we are competing with much bigger and stronger brands who's unit costs are a lot lower than ours.

Anyway, Bernhard is better equiped to discuss these issues but have a look at our website on the ImpactRX section (www.asgsport.co.za and follow links to Rudy Project or go direct www.rudyproject.co.za) - these sport scripts from Rudy is made by Shamir Optics in Israel (probably the best optics lab in the world) and they basically build your script around your eyes (wrap around)...I am yet to meet an unhappy customer - especially for specialist sport solutions. Obviously the ImpactX lenses are also a lot more expensive than PC lenses which ads to the cost.

I can honestly tell you our margins on RX solutions are very small - we started the program more from a "credibility" point of view than anything else. Our main business is normal unscripted eyewear.

On a completely different note - I had lasic surgery done on my eyes - better than 20/20 vision now - can highly recommend looking into this! Have you considered this option?

Good luck!

ASG, thanks for the response. After all, every objection to a sell is a request for more information, and an opportunity to make the sell stick, so respect.

I love those Rydons- looked at them when I picked up the Zuma at the Argus, but came up with the same problem as Crack- price, especially for prescription lenses. Ouch.

I think that what you don't reveal is that you have targetted the more discerning market which has the disposable income to spend on the upmarket brands, which includes Rydon which have unquestionable and second to none quality characteristics. And that there is a particular consumer psychology that identifies lower price with lower prestige and status. So what you are is fact selling, is attitude, prestige and status. The fact that there are many who fall into this bracket as cyclists with money (especially us MAMILS - middle aged men in lycra) means that the brand can sustain those prices. But R2400 for a pair of glasses still seems out of proportion- ie questionable value for money. The same applies to those exquisite machines in your other post- I believe that its aimed at people who are willing to pay for the prestige of the name, and not about the intrinsic value. As it is for most cycling products actually, isn't it? I look forward to checking out the bikes at the 94.7.

And to the extent that you are successful, well done. Really.

BTW, I spoke to Bernhard at the Argus expo as well, when I managed to get his attention from amongst the dozens at the stand.

Thanks for the feedback - that is what I like about the hub - we can get honest responses from end users! We are fully aware that we do not have a lot of products to compete in the lower price bracket (almost all our brands are aimed at the higher end of the market) and have recently launched a new frame called the SWIFT - it retails for R1290 and has the same lenses as the Rydon photo clear (ImpactX lenses that transition) but to make this happen we had to order several thousand at a time, negotiate a huge discount with the Italians and ask them to make some frames that are available only in SA (to avoid those grey importers from laying there hands on it after a few months) - the end result was unbelievable - we can not get enough of these...BUT THE GOOD NEWS - they can also be scripted - both with an insert solution (typically less than R1000) or as direct in frame - more expensive depending on the kind of lenses you do. Bernhard at our office can help you out - send him this link on bernhard@asgworld.co.za and I'll make sure he helps you out.

Check out the SWIFT frames on our website: www.asgsport.co.za under the promotions and ads section:

Yang, CWC cycles have them for around R1600 without helmet and lenses. That is what you pay for Oakley or similar brands. I'm not disputing the fact that its still a lot of money but what you get is definitely quality, I have a pair and from personal experience can tell you that it can take some serious punishment.

Not doubting they wont take punishment, waht you doing to the glasses in the first place that they are taking a punishment? Secondly I bet my Adidas would take an equal amount of said "punishment" -They cost me R900. This is where it gets expensive - It costs you R5000 for full presciption lenses(Rudys), my Adidas Adizero R1000 with photocromic & anti scratch, thats just the lenses. Then add your frames to that. Also they wont let you but the two things seperatly even if its cheaper :( Load of bollocks if you tell me
