I need to upgrade my MTB, but I'm not sure how my R5000 would be best spent - any help would be much appreciated!

I have an old Schwinn Mesa that I bought off my brother-in-law for R 2,500 some years ago.

The front fork is forked!! So that needs replacing.

The front wheel is very slightly buckled - so that also needs to be replaced.

1. What kind of front fork should I get? Are forks brake specific?

2. Do I replace both wheels? Are rims brake specific?

3. If I get disc brake rims, I guess I need disc brakes too then?

4. Is everything pretty simple to install oneself or should I look up a bike shop?

5. Any bike shop recommendations (JHB North) that will fit components for me?

Currently looking at:

New - Hygia Elite Carbon disc brakes (R1800)

2nd hand - Rock Shox Sid dual air (R1000)

2nd hand - Alex DP17 Rims on Novatek Hubs with Tires (R1300)

Thanks hubbers!!

I paid R6500 for last years GT Av 1. Prehaps with some searching and a few more pennies you could just buy a new bike?

I did consider this Mojoman, my thinking is that if I get half decent components i.e. the fork, rims and brakes I could keep them when I upgrade the frame (eventually when my wife permits)

i would buy a new bike! have a look at the FElt Q520 its a really pretty bike and you could always built your old components onto the new bike (if they any good) and you get new wheels and a new shock, it might not be the best but it will be new and probably better than what you currently

there is a GT for sale for R5500 in the "for sale" section of the hub. looks good.

i'd rather buy another bike for that budget and probably keep my older bike for spares.

you need to check the specs for size etc. i think it is a medium.

just my 2c

Buy all your components off the HUB!!

You will get great deals on high spect items...

(1) tubeless rims

(2) good suspension form like you mentioned.

Keep on consulting the HUB...there is always great advice just a click away...
