Hi.

I’ve got a Chorus 11 groupset on my bike and I want to use it on the indoor trainer.

I want to buy a cheep rear rim so that I can fit a indoor training tire to it. My problem is that a Chorus 11 cassette makes this quite an expensive training wheel.

Can anybody tel me if I can use any other cassette?

do you even need to change gear on the IDT? if you have one with adjustable resistance you can use whatever gear lines up nicely with the RD. not ideal i know, but better than nothing.

There is no cheaper 11 speed casette than Chorus. Even the lower 11 speed groupsets use 11 speed Chorus casettes and chains AFAIK. Considering the casette is around R1500 and another wheel could be R500 it's almost worth buying a cheap bike with Shimano components to use on your trainer.

Join the brigade of people who came to the realisation that 11 speed is bull and upgrade to 10. It is a simple procedure inside your ergo lever. Then you can upgrade to cheaper 10-speed sprockets and use your everyday bike on your trainer too.

There are plenty of suckers who will take your 11-speed cassettes off you.
