I am slowly building my 29 er from parts purchased both new and on the hub, but here's the thing,

my riding partner said he heard that the powers that be, i.e CSA are thinking of categorizing 29ers into their own class,as tandems are at the moment. has anyboby heard something along these lines or is it bull?

German Mountain Bike Federation did ban 29ers for a while, but then saw the light... what next, making full suspension bikes ineligible to race against hardtails!

End of the day if it's good enough for racing under UCI rules then it's good enough for me

Sounds like bull to me. WTF would you do with a 69er?

Good point but i believe the 69er only came into being as gary fisher was frightened to go the whole hog and change the frame, i think now that the 29er is here to stay the 69er will disappear.

Nonsense, he was making 29'ers before Trek launched their flop.

Categorizing 29ers apart from other bikes is just stupid. In road races or ironman there are no seperate categories for guys with deep section carbon wheels, even though they have an advantage at certain times.

RANT ON

This is how I see it:

Categories are for things you don't have control over, like: age, gender or dissability.

To make a seperate category for 29er doesn't make sense at all. I am 29er by choice and I don't want a cotegory to make me look better.

If 29ers are faster on some routes, people should convert or have two bikes. Or they should accept that in some races 29ers will have advantage and in others the 26" will reign supreme.

I feel exactly the same about races that have a seperate category for single speeds. Single speed is a choice not a category and if you want to race single speed so that you can end up on a podium, you are missing the point.

If you want to end up on the podium you must race with the big guns in your age category, period.

I think if there is any truth in this rumor, then it will only apply to S.A. as a result of people who have possibly nothing better to do.

I only have 29'ers and even compete against 26 inch geared bikes with a singlespeed, so where are my advantages ?

Thats scary,How will Burry race in the future?

BTW was it Brendon back from NZ

Burry will go to his suppliers and they will give him any bike he needs,

He rides a 29er not by choice, but because thats what the Spez team want him to ride!

.....and then categories for guys on drugs and guys not on drugs......and then guys on singlespeed 29ers with quetionalble THC levels

Errrm, not really, when you meet Mike Sinyard you realise that Specialized is a company who is passionate about the sport and that innovation is what keeps them ahead of their competitors, not forcing their athletes to manipulate and influence the way they feel the market should go.

And a seperate category for guys with babbalas B) ie Bos

And then another two categories for guys who work shifts and for guys who work 8-5

I think there are already a lot of categories at some races with the prize givings lasting quite long, so to suck some more categories out of our thumbs is not the way to go.
