Yup, pretty safe. There are normally other riders on the trails.

Perhaps do the Red route to familiarize yourself with the surrounds first. The Black route has a lekka technical section on the furthest part of the route and is probably wise to have some company for that.

Edit - removed comment, dont want to scare you off mtbiking!

Doing this previously cancelled ride, due to popular demand, this Sunday. Bring your wind/splash jackets & a lil' HTFU 'cause I ain't gonna cancel this time,

START: S/West (Lord Charles BP Garage) - Sir Lowrey's KOM points past Grabouw - Houw Hoek - Kleinmond (coffee) - Rooi Els - G/Bay - single trip up to Steenbras Waterworx KOM points- home

+/- 130km's; leave S/West around 7h15, so will get to over/top of Sir Lowrey's in the light.

Ave.km/h +/- 27km/h

Weather looking good but a bit early to confirm it.

My lil' HTFU is still hibernating at 7:15 during the winter and since sunrise is only at 7:28 on Sunday, how about a later start? :P

Dude! You getting old? LOL. Come on man - we wanna still get to the top of the pass while the sunrise is still fresh. Lil' HTFU can wake up while you are on the road.

No, I dont mapmyride, I ridemyride! :P

Well I like to see what I am letting myself in for before I embark on a ride. Here is a mapmyride route (just doesn't include pump station and down again).

btw I am a couple years younger than you...... I still have the excitement to get up in the morning to go for a ride.... Well that and that my wife loves sleeping late which also helps me get extra hours to ride.

A friend of mine, Dennis, wants to ride with you guys. Told him I'm sure it will not be a problem as long as he does not take all the KOM points. :D
