Go for 34 unless you are a superdude like Bos. I find it useful because I dont ride every day so not that fit and my bike weighs 13kg - remember this is MTB not road riding - you can almost always use a lower gear...

Kakstories! I just dont eat as much as you : ) No Im just joking..

 

I think It comes down to what you are use to, like riding in a hard gear is common on a roadbike, and It hasnt killed anyone ..but as some okes said, that last steep climb of a long race or the 5th day of a stage race..well, you decide. most Mtb races take longer to compleat than road races.

 

I often find that I cant even balance when going up something steep enough to use the 32t, and when I am going up steep technical stuff Im trying to keep momentum therefore using about 28t which is around the same as my current 34-11 and 26t chainring maximum.

 

I am hardly a top 10% finisher but as mentioned, there are very different riders here, and very different goals..
