I know there are lots of topics about DIY lights but I need some clear advise on the topic before I waste my time.

I need to know if 2x MR16 size halogen 12v 20w 36deg 3000h ligth bulbs will be bright enough to do nigth rides with?

Under normal conditions 1 will be bright enough. Try and find the 10 degree version. Makes a much nicer light. This is a battery thirsty option but quick and nasty (and cheap) and very effective. I still use it for training as the added weight is only beneficial while training.

Have you thought about using two LED Torches attached to your bars? Might be a whole lot easier. You can cheap it out and use duct tape :o or make up a simple mount using plumbing fittings to hold the torch. I bought an LED light for a few hundred rand and my neighbour pitched at one of our morning rides with a R50 torch attached to his bars with a R5 plumbing clip and outshone me by far. We ended up using his light to see whare we were going :)

Just a thought...

Sorry... Only saw skollie's post after I posted mine. Are you able to buy just the handle bar bracket if you already have a torch?

I ride with 3W MR16 LED downlighter bulbs connected to a 12V 1400mAh battery(guess 500g). I get more than 3hours of light and 1 light is good enough for night riding on mtb trails. I usually ride with one on the bar and another on the helmet. This light is about R200 more expensive than the halogen route, but it is much better.
