Shimano SLX MT65 vs XT M775 wheelset

Hi Guys,

 

I'm looking at getting a new wheelset and I cant see much of a difference between these two wheelsets apart from the XT's being a few grams lighter and a bit more expensive than the SLX's.

 

From what I've read on the forums, the XT's biggest problem seems to be rear hub failure, but I haven't seen any obvious SLX issues.

 

Anyone got any opinions / experience / advice here?

Sorry guys - another question on these wheels.

 

I see these wheelsets are both 'tubeless compatible'. Does this mean that the weight quoted excludes the necessary goodies for a tubeless setup i.e. rim strips, tubeless valves, etc.?

I have Xt wheels in stock - new R2900. So for a few hundred rand I decided not to bring MT65 anymore!

Good price! Do you need to do any conversions to run them tubeless i.e. add rim strips / change valves or are they good to go?

They are ready to go out the box.

I chose the XT over XTR, XTR just wouldn't hold up to my riding style.

Have you had any issues with the rear hub? That seems to be the biggest gripe about them.

I got a set of XTs the other day as well.

As said above, they are ready out the box and they are so easy to set up you can use a floor pump. No compressors or bombs needed.

 

The rear hub on myne is still golden... touch wood...

Bought my XT's for the 2009 Epic. Great wheelset. No issues to date and the rear hub is still in a perfect condition, no hassles.

 

Bought the XTR set this week for a bargain, but still needs to test them out!!
