Hey I'm new to the Garmin edge range and I'm trying to use Garmin connect.

Downloaded the browser pluggin and installed it as well as the USB driver

but when installing the driver it says "installation has failed or you have

chosen to stop" which ofcoarse i haven't.

Does anyone have some suggestions to solve the issues?

I'd greatly appreciate some help :(

Check your download, I normally have to download stuff from Garmin site 3 or 4 times before it downloads the whole file!

It will say on the site the file is for instance 8Mb but when you check on your pc it only downloaded 4Mb, wont work then.

Nope, I tried running the same file on a different pc and it worked.

But thanks for responding.

You should not need to load USB drivers for your Garmin 305, as the PC should automatically pick it up.

You might not be able to load files from the device directly to Garmin Connect, as the file types may differ.

Try and save the file as a .gpx file, and then send that to Garmin Connect.

You can also try and get access to Mapsource, the Garmin mapping software that enables you to view Garmin maps on your PC. Once you have saved a ride details as a .gpx file, it is a very handy program to plot your ride on the map, and you can also make profiles of the ride.

I use a roundabout method to get ride details onto the PC.

I first use Training Centre to retreive the ride/file from the device.

Then the file gets exported to a folder on my PC, saving the file as a .gpx file.

Open the .gpx file in Mapsource.

Once the file is open in Mapsource, it can be transferred to google earth, for a satellite image of the route.

A profile view of the route can also be created.

I think thats the issue, windows doesn't identify the device properly:

I tried updating my USB drivers though and came uppon this wierd driver updating

program which actually identified there is a garmin without drivers, but it cost 29$ so...

Glad we are on the same page with Firefox, mind if I "use" her for a while? ;)

You can upload directly to the Garmin Connect site with a 305 Pezulu, no need to export to gpx first.

Ok, so try the following.

Install Web Updater for Windows_242 (5058Kb)

Connect your 305 and check for updates using Web Updater.

Install Communicator Plugin for windows_292 (5811Kb)

Install USB drivers_23 (3122Kb)

Open Training Center, connect your device and see if the import starts automatically, if it doesnt, hit "receive from device" and tell us what happens

(let me know if you need any of the programs above)

For some reason I have a strange feeling, somewhere along the line Firefox wasnt to happy with one of these downloads or plugins but I can remember which. Did it thought IE quickly and then deleted it .. IE! :D

Thanks for the advice but none of the programs detects the device, there's nothing happening except

windows seeing there is A device but being unable to identify it. I installed the driver on a separate

PC and when connecting the device it picks it up just fine. So, the issue is somewhere in my PC's USB

but that doesnt make any sense because everything else works works fine, Nokia USB, mouse&keyboard, external

HDD etc... I literally have no idea what to do.

I've read on the garmin forums that people with similar problems have had to get a garmin technition connect

to their pc remotely and fix the issue but no one knows what exactly the issue is. It cant be that hard...

Overall I'm dissapointed with garmin technical support, in none of the gamin driver issue posts do you see

a tech helping out.

Try this. First remove/uninstall the "Unknown device" in the device manager. Now download the USB drivers from the Garmin website: http://www8.garmin.com/software/USBDrivers_23.exe

Now open the USBDrivers_23.exe with Winrar or Winzip and extract the files to a known location on the HDD. Navigate to the location where you extracted the files to and them browse to the "BIN" folder. Now, depending on whether you have a 64 bit or 32 bit oerating system, double click on either the USB_32.msi or USB_64.msi file and see if you manage to install the Garmin USB driver this way.

What programs are you using?

Training Center?

Map Source?

Others?

I've downloaded the Firefox (you know, the browser) communicator plugin, Garmin trainer and the updater. I've installed them all, uninstalled them all (including the registry files i could find), tried new ports, nothing.

There are a couple of GRMUSB files in System32 but it doesn't want to delete them...
