So moving forward we can hope for either a drop in entry fee, or more of a bang for our buck overall experience. Does anyone here have connections with the shova race organisers so we can forward this forum on? No use complaining or coming up with great ideas here without expressing them to the right people.

According to their info mails they can be contacted at news@amashova.co.za Not sure how to send them the thread though  Maybe somebody could help?

The most frustrating thing for me was not what wasn't in the bag, but more 'why did I have to drive from Jo'burg, and find the number collection, just to collect a piece of paper and a pair of socks?'

Surely if we're going to scrap goodie bags (which effectively this was), then we could collect our numbers in other cities! Say, maybe, Wednesday in Jo'burg, Thursday in Pietermatitzburg, and Friday/Saturday in Durban - then it would be much more 'leasurely'!

I don't think there would be any complaints if this was the situation: R100 race entry- this includes road closure, admin and waterpoints. That's it. No promises of expos or goodie bags. You pay to ride and that's it. But we pay a fortune, get all excited by adverts and promises via emails, to only get dissapointed by the registration. If there was no payment for added extras then there would be no dissapointment when we don't get them. Agreed?

The water points are generally sponsored stands, at no or little cost to the event organizers.

In terms of goodie bags, no expectation. If I don’t get a goodie bag- I simply have less to give my domestic.

I must draw the line at a registration in a basement accompanied an pathetic excuse for an expo. Did I see a yoyo stand?!?!?

Ok so I just received a reply to my email from Melissa, and she thanked me for letting her know about the issues and this link which she looked at. They are addressing the concerns of us cyclists she said. Good on her for replying. Now we wait :D
