Every now and then I visit a factory in PTA west, so I leave JHB at 5:45 to mis the traffic. Generally only have to be there at 8 - 8:30, so I was thinking to start the day with a quick 1.5 hr cycle. Is it safe to ride early mornings in groenkloof / voortrekker monument / fonteine by yourself?

Any ideas where I can catch a shower after a morning ride.

pass there every morning around 5ish.....have not had any issues, thank God!

But as always with SA, you don't get to be too relaxed! ;)

Shower.....Virgin Active in George Storrar drive might be an option.

Thanks. Do you ride "around there" or do you ride "inside there"? Just wondering, cause I'd like to do some MTB, and also don't know how to get inside. What time do the gates open @ groenkloof?

How does the riding compare between groenkloof and voortrekker monument?

Groenkloof is a lot flatter while the Monument has lots of ups and downs, you'll definately "Feel the burn". Personally I prefer Groenkloof.

Gates open 5:30 in summer as far as I know, during the week you have to use the Fountains Valley entrance. There are showers at Fountains Valley but I wouldn't recommend them.

Showers at Groenkloof are FINE.

Like Zaskar said.....opens at 05:30 I think and riding should be safe.

Prefer Groenkloof by FAR!!!

Where's the showers!? :o

THANKS!!!! Groenkloof will see me next week then!

Do you know where the fountains entrance is? If your coming from jhb you probably taking the N14, then Eeufees rd to get to PTA West, instead of turning left towards PTA West (at Eeufees) just turn right. The entrance will be right in front of you, just ask them to direct you to Groenkloof but basically just follow the road to the left (once inside fountains).
