Yet again,

mate of mine on his way to Amashova, stopped at stop / go sign. They ripped off his bike from the thule carrier, hit him with a plank when he got out the car and then they ran off. No other motorists were prepared to help. So one black and red Merida has a new owner.

SAP were not too helpful in Pongola either, now how many locals do you think would be able to own a Merida down there?

On the other side, Cyclesure are giving him B---T about replacing the bike but they will meet with him on Friday 22nd. Pity its too late for the Satelite race. :(

That's not good to hear. I drive down that road quite often. I haven't had problems like that before. Maybe because the roadworks have gone on so long it's given the thieves time to work on a strategy, or to realise there are easy pickings.

Maybe time to do like the taxi's. Just drive through even when on stop.

Before crucifying the insurance company, was the bike locked onto the carrier? Their policy wording is pretty specific about that requirement.

The N2 past Pongola is a SANRAL road and falls under the control of SANRAL's Eastern Region. I may be wrong but a bell rings somewhere in my murky past that the contractor(s) working on projecst should have security at the Stop/Ry,Go positions. The contractor should also be comprehensively insured against third party losses and claims.

Go and look at this web page http://www.nra.co.za/live/content.php?Item_ID=96 and contact the correct people. Do not take NO for an answer and get names and follow up conversations in writing.

Just an update.

The bike was locked to the carier, they cut the straps to get it off. Two guys working together so it must be happening elsewhere also. The SAP think they are looking for a bike with an engine because of the R 40 k price tag.

The assessor from Cyclesure seems to be the problem, (not cyclesure themselves) but it is still not resolved. Perhaps he should buy her flowers and choccies. So now he has withhdrawn from the DC as well.
