Hello all,

I pulled a nasty and hi-jacked a similar thread in the TechQ&A today - so in an effort to restore my Hub manners:

Can you use MTB v-brakes on a cyclocross bike?

I know canti's etc. are the norm - but a quick google seems to suggest that v-brakes can also be used?

Anyone have any info, since my knowledge about CX is non-existent.

Don't want to fleece a potential buyer!

Fanks!

No and a bit of yes. The road levers don't pull enough cable to work v-brakes properly BUT you can use a Rollermajig from Avid which will help. You see this on tandems. But v-brakes are not permitted in racing.

There are 2 options instead of cantilevers.

Short arm v-brakes like they use on tandems.

The Rollamajig doesn't change the amount of cable pull.

the only 'v-brakes' any self respecting crosser would use are the TRP ones which are a little smaller and work 100% with road bike brake levers - other wise its canti's only which are way more cooler.......

Tandems are the only non-MTB bike that should have V-Brakes.......

My GT cyclocross bike has MTB V brakes - Shimano Deore XT.

The travel agent (as used on tandems - I also have one!) DOES change the pull so you can use standard STI levers. Jules Cobbett also has the same setup and they both work perfectly. I can post pics, if required.

Apologies for disappearing Hubbers!

Am "watching" this topic - but received no notifications on my BB <_<

Jmaccelari - thanks! I'm trying to sell XT v-brakes, and I just want to be sure that I can pass them over to a fellow Hubber, without there being issues...If ordinary MTB Deore levers were used with them - then presumably one wouldn't need a travel agent??

Think I'll let them go, and simply take them back if there's a problem!

How much do you want for the XT brakes?
