SRM Debuts 2008 Wireless Powermeter, Mountain Bike Powermeter and Solar Powermeter

The following products to be unveiled are:
? Wireless PowerMeter - will send power, cadence and speed signals using ANT+Sport? technology. The SRM wireless PowerMeter will work with a wireless compatible SRM PowerControl and also with the new Garmin Edge 605 & 705 models.
? Solar PowerMeter ? a solar panel will replace the current SRM decal on the PowerMeter which will greatly increase battery life.
? Mountain Bike PowerMeter ? SRM has worked with FSA to develop a new MTB PowerMeter around the FSA Afterburner crank.

The new Wireless PowerMeter will use ANT+Sport? technology. This will allow the PowerMeter to interface with other devices such as the Garmin Edge 605 and 705. SRM will also offer the system with a wireless compatible PowerControl. The new wireless PowerMeter will also work with the current sensor cable and PowerControl V.

The Solar option will be available for most new Professional PowerMeters. The solar panel replaces the battery. A small buffer battery is also added to support the solar panel in inclement weather conditions. The Solar panel will extend years to the life of a PowerMeter without requiring battery replacement.

The new FSA compatible SRM MTB system utilizes the existing FSA Afterburner crank design which will work with most mountain bikes. SRM replaces the existing spider with a PowerMeter which adds approximately 150 grams. An FSA bottom bracket is included with the system.

I'm wondering why the PowerTap hasn't been announced yet as being compatible with the Garmin 705?  It is already using the wireless ANT+ protocol, but I believe the message format needs to be standardised.

A little bird told me a few months back that there would be three PM's that would be compatible with the Garmin - definitely Quarq and SRM, and one would assume Powertap.

The Solar option is also a good idea.  One of the drawbacks of the SRM is the battery replacement process - the unit has to be sent in to the agents to change batteries, so you can be without your PM for a short while.
