D@mned Speed Fines!

I recieved an AARTO notification in the mail the other day. After checking www.paycity.co.za a few times the fine finally showed up there, but with no info, only that I was caught somewhere in Pretoria and the date.

I phoned the AARTO call centre in Pretoria and they sent me the complete thing by email and sure as sh!t there's a nice little photo of my car. However, I know the area where I got caught (pretorius street, heading towards the highway) and I am always very careful there. I am sure I did not drive as fast as they claim, but what to do?

The buggers are clever too. If I pay without making a fuss (within 32 days), the fine is R250. After that - R500! My first impulse is to pay, but I am sure I am being screwed.

I find it very strange that the photo they sent me is very closely cropped around my car. It sort of makes me wonder how many other cars were in the picture that could have been speeding...

Time for all you armchair legal eagals to flex those judicial muscles and get me out of paying :P

I got one yesterday, well a parking fine, for parking in front of, wait for it, a gate thats been welded shut for the last 3 years with a flowerbed on the other side of the gate. But in their defence, there was a no stopping sign. Everybody on campus just knows that gate isn't in use anymore so we can park there. Bloody ridiculous if you ask me!

Was the notice sent by registered mail? Did it have a date of posting on it?

If neither of the above, the notice is invalid. Have a look here: www.aarto.co.za

Normally they are too lazy to send the fine. It is rediculous, they offer you 50% discount if you pay within 30 days but the first you hear about the fine is when you get stopped 6 months later in a road block and they make you sign that you are now aware of the fine and notify that if you get stopped in another roadblock and have not paid it that you will be arrested. It is extorsion, they forced me to pay this fine and I dispute that it is even me in the photo. I am still trying to get refunded, I had no choice but to pay or face the possibility of getting arrested.

And don't get me started on how difficult it is to get through to someone at the Metro who can help with this matter. If the JMPD was a legitimate business nobody would do business with them because they are so useless but they force you to do business with them or face arrest. As I said and I will repeat it. It is extorsion.

My girlfriend was also forced to pay 2 fines of R125.00 each for - wait for it... driving 74 and 76km/h in an 80 zone!!!

If you blow this picture up you can make out the number plate, all it proves is that it is my registration, you can't make out what vehicle it is or what colour it is.

Yeah, you are right chris.

Some time back I wnet to that Payfine site just to see what was up, I had 5 fines I didnt even know about, I never recieved any notification in the post nothing, one was even over a year old.

Anyway, I paid 2 of them as I could see it was me and I was probably speeding on that stretch of road, but I disputed the others.

S***f em, they can summons me for the money, even then I may go to court.

In fact, to force you to do business with them timeously and with a smile they threaten to double the fine if you don't
