Service it or buy a new one! What fork is it?

We wanted to see if we could service it on our own...use his bike to learn more about bikes ;)

Needed a head start on what to do with the shock?

I think these are coil forks? Not sure. I have a Suntour but its an air fork. Periodically I drip some Q20 oil (not the spray) around the seals and stanchions and pump it a few times, then wipe clean. This helps keep the seals clean and may free up some movement on the fork but I think you will find the internals need some attention (and an oil change?) and I don't know how easily you will find the seals etc. I assume you have fiddled with the settings? The Suntour site is useless but there was someone on the Hub who is the agent for Suntour, I just can't think of the name, they maybe able to assist with servicing and parts.

All the manuals are available on the suntour site.

'Tis true, all except my Suntour Mag 32 air! Was told by Suntour to look at the XCM as they are 'similar'! I asked about seals and parts and never heard from them again. In the new year I will replace the Suntour with something else but for now its working so its OK!

Not much point in trying to service a suntour 99% of bike shops simply dont stock parts in SA, since its generally cheaper to replace than to fix.

Just removed the boat anchor of a Suntour of my g/f's Schwinn. It weighs 2,5 kg, has crazy stiction and because its not an oil bath design will alway be cr@p. She now has my 5 year old Fox F100. Chalk and cheese.

Advise your mate to upgrade to something a bit better - Rock Shox arent bad value these days.
