Hi spanner,

Be VERY careful, I was also going to try out DengFu, but looks like my gmail account got hacked in some way. As the person insisted in using Western Union, and not paypal. I went to WU and they also warned me, that I should not use WU, if I do not know the person on the other side. I eventually found the correct person, phoned him, and he did not have any context of what I tried to explain to him (added to the fact that his English was bad) and now I may get the goods. (pays to keep on trying). And he is asking the correct questions, e.g. shipping address, etc. The email address the fraudster was using was exactly the same, except it ended with yahoo.com.

Will keep you guys informed.

Have a look on the MTBR Forums (if you're looking for a MTB) or the RBR forum (if a roadbike)

There are a couple of threads on Chinese carbon bikes and who are the best to deal with.

Dont stress about the shabbyjob once it gets here! There are a few guys out here that can do some awesome decals, vinyl_guy for instance. Also, there are 1 or two guys that import directly fromt eh factories in China, re-brand here and sell at a greatly reduced cost, I would be sure to check out the workings with them as well, just some advice as I would be a little "nervous" dealing directly with a person that cant really speak my language.

Also, remember, you are going to pay some import duties when the frame arrives here. So do yourself a favour and factor this into your costing. Int he end, it might actually be a little cheaper to deal with guys on here like CCD and Pornstar, who may have a little more buying power and a relationship with the manufacturers already.

Just some friendly advice, use it, dont use it. Whichever way you decide to go, good luck!

Hi all, there is no duty costs on bike parts landing in SA, you only pay 13 - 15% duties on complete bikes. Bearing in mind you will be charged the 14%VAT, but not duties if it is just the frame.

I would not buy a blank, no name frame from some guy in China. No matter how good or how bad they are, can you trust it? You say they offer a warranty, your question should be; will they honour it?

There is someone here on the Hub who was complaining about the fact that his Chinese imported no-name brand frame cracked after a few weeks of use and he had no means of exchanging it.

If you really want one, there are 2 Hubbers that I know of that sell these frames. There is a lot less risk buying from somebody that can be trusted. The one guy is called Apricot Jam and the other guy's name is CCD.

If you are buying your friend's bike, just make sure it is the right size for you. Size is the most important factor when buying a bike.
