I have a CS300 and it works perfectly. I do have a speedo on my bike separately since I do triathlon. What nice is the price (R1,800) and you also havce the option to add the cadence sensor.

Perfect for the social cyclist who like to go running etc some times. Its just not as pretty as the more expensive ones. Also consider looking on Bid or Buy as there are secondhand watches for R2,000 thats double that new. So if you arent full of **** and dont mind a scratch or two you can get an excellent 2ndhand watch..........

mmmm although I dont hate my CS300 it got very stale, very quickly. It's not exactly cheap (paid 1800 a year ago), the sonic link data transfer is a nightmare to setup and to get working every time. Also the polar site isn't exactly rich only really giving avg's and totals for workouts or time periods.

If i could do it over again, save 1000 more and get the garmin edge 500, more functionality, richer interfaces(google earth overlays) and more usefull information all round.

Take this from a guy who's CS300 and all it sensors are sitting in a box at home.

Thanks for all the info i have done a bit of research on the garmin units and got a price from easygis.co.za for 2799 for the edge 500 and also got a price from cape union mart for the edge 305 for 2499. Which one of the two is better im not that into cycling so dont need top of the range stuff.

And is it a good idea to buy 2nd hand stuff?

No warranty worries me a bit.

And you never know what it went through.(Falling and so on.)

Defnitely the edge 500, the 305 had/have(not sure if they fixed it yet) issues where the thing's battery kept disconnecting just search the tech forums for edge 305. Look wrt to buying local or importing you can save some bucks by importing with no local warranty(you need to roll the dice  ), I think the local agents will still fix it if something happens but you will ahve to pay a "handling" fee, which is fair.

So if I can get an second hand garmin edge 305 for 1k should I take it or rather not cause of the battery problems
