Velo Club - 20 November

To the velo club that was cycling this morning (20 Nov)east of Pretoria:

 

You guys are a moving road hazard that are a danger to yourselves and other road users.

 

Three immediate points:

 

Cycling in a group 10 deep and 4 wide on a narrow road is stupid, especially when you are only travelling at 20- 30km/hr. It is impossible for cars to pass you safely. Either break into smaller groups and cycle 2 /3 wide or consider being sideswiped by a overtaking car that has to avoid oncoming traffic. THINK a bit.

 

Cycling on the right hand side of the road is STUPID, no mater how grand you feel that you are passing your mates.

 

Consider actualy giving other road users some road in the future.

 

As a mtbker, runner, road cyclist and duathlete, I was ashamed at your behaviour this morning. Today you were lucky, next time that white BMW that cut in front of you (this was not me as I was behind you guys when it happened) might not have the time to pass all of you safely, and he will be forced to take out the front third of the group to avoid oncoming traffic.

 

Please be more considerate and careful in the future.

Well speaking about guys doing silly things on the way to one of the voriberg mountainbike races saw. Thes guys cycling next to each other basically on the yellow line allong the N14!!! Come on guys those cars are coming passed at 120 if one of them so much as clips you with his mirror because the driver wasn't concentrating and cant quite judge the other side of their car your tickets as well as probably a bunch of your cycling buddies

The groups heading out East to Boschkop really need to catch a wake-up call before there is a tragic accident and lots of finger-pointing between motorists and cyclists.

 

Maybe someone could point out to all the head honchos/race snakes of the clubs heading out in large groups that it is not acceptable to use public roads with complete disregard for other road users and that any fatalities arising from such reckless 4-a-breast bunch riding will be on their consciences?

 

Most Velo riders are friendly and agreeable guys(&gals) and I expect that they will mend their ways if someone(a bit older than me) educated them. On the 30 odd rides I've tagged along on weekends, the groups were rarely more than 3-a-breast. Unfortunately, there will always be tjops who do as they please. As much as I wouldn't mind the odd tjop being taken out of the gene pool I am compelled to look after my fellow cyclists in the hope that they'll return the favour and point out anything I can change so I can enjoy cycling for as long as possible.

Anywho, this 4(3)-a-breast riding nonsense needs to stop.
