Anderson transport results removed from racetec?

davem, how is the topic irresponsible? A question was asked an an answer was given. It is everyone else who is looking for rumour mongering.

Didn't the OP claim to have "friends"in the team? Surely, he could've contacted them. He could also have contacted the organisers, as someone later did. By posting the topic as he did, he raised questions about the team in questions that could otherwise have been answered. Not all avenues to him were exhausted before "publishing" his rumour on a forum. That is irresponsible.

There is a case for defamation.

One cannot simply publish any rumour you hear on an open forum such as The Hub.

Now you only tell the Hubbers :o - gonna be dead around here now ;)

I disagree, AT's integrity was diminished by the OP.

Mr Legs, how was their integrity diminshed ?

I think more of the team for the fact that the team boss came on here and said there was no test and they were not asked.

the guy didnt start a rumour - he asked a question to find out if it was true. I dont think there was anything vindictive in the question.

Just playing devils advocate here but you don't 'think' but you also don't 'know' ;)

exactly BigS, and everyone else is just assuming that there must be more to this and I am arguing (rather badly I might add) that there is nothing more to it.

question. answer. simple.

The title and subtitle of the thread: Anderson transport refuse drug test at DC?? Heard a rumor- is it true??

Why not, if these were people he was concerned about, ask "is it false"?

He sought to confirm or further a rumour in the hope that it was true.

Firstly, he said it was a rumour. Secondly, applying the strict laws of journalism to an internet poster is rally a bit over the top (and come on, journo's still make it up right?!). He stated it was a rumour and asked if it was true. Come on, cut the guys some slack. Yes, he got it wrong and everyone bashed his balls for it. Going the defamation route would be spiteful to the extreme, plus it allerted us to the fact that AT's results were removed.

that is a whole another question on the way people think.

Like I said - I am not arguing my case well.

I agree that Heimer Anderson did the correct thing with his post, but by that stage many people had read the post where the suggestion is made that they have something to hide and the damage was done. It does not matter whether the OP was vindictive, or merely repeated something he heard, the post was in my view irresponsible.

You are obviously entitled to have a different view and that's cool with me, I just think one should be careful what you write about other people, even if it is in the shape of a question.

This world really is going to shite if you can't ask a simple question anymore without having to first consult your lawyer to find out if you have to correct wording - this is a stupid thread close it down and move on.

Mr Legs, the important part first. As someone else has said, the original post was done with a measure of innocence. As the thread moved on, and it became clear there was some damage being done, perhaps the orginal topic should have changed. That is what I would have done.

On the more lesser important topic - alot of posts on here are written without thinking them through. I recall when someone was accused of doping and an apology had to be written.

International riders are accused of all sorts of things and nothing is said of those poster?

Hang on Tumble.

Does that mean if I hear something about a team, that I am not allowed to come on a public forum and ask a question ?

If it is potentially damaging to their character, you should make sure every other potential avenue is exhausted, and to list these.

It's not about journalism laws, but simple defamation. I doubt damages would be sought by any potential complainant, and even if they were, I doubt, in this case, any punishment other than a demand for an apology would be handed down.

The laws concerning libel and defamation in this country have remained unchaged for many, many years.
