Got sent this by a mate this morning, seems that cars and bikes are just not meant to share a road anywhere.

:(

A speeding car plowed head-on into a group of cyclists in southern Italy on Sunday morning, killing eight of them, officials said. The driver had been smoking marijuana, police said.

Bent, mangled bikes were strewn about the scene, and the sheet-draped corpses dotted the two-lane road near Lamezia Terme, in the Calabrian "toe" of boot-shaped Italy where the accident occurred.

On Sky this morning they had the whole thing. The country is in shock as it has been a very long time since so many people has died in a single accident on their roads.

the driver also had his 10yr old son with him.

funny, i almost got run over this weekend on Hendrik Potgieter. around 5:15 was cycling out to the cradle. roads where quiet, hardly any cyclists, well i did not see anyone else riding towards the cradle. then just passed the driving range, an idiot with an audi, travelling in the opposite direction, swayed of his lane and was heading directly for me, when just before the yellow line on myside of the road, he swerved back to his own lane. think the idiot fell off to sleep. and my luck would have it that he would be heading for me!!! but just has he got back to his lane, a police vehicle came passed me and made a you turn and chased after the guy.

sont know where your luck lies. just becareful out there. always be aware of what is going on around you!!

I saw newspaper article about a motorcyclist killed in the Cape. He was driving on the wrong side of the road like they are doing in the Cradle. One if these days it is going to happen there as well. Stupid people. The cradle dwellers can be glad bikers do not ride in peleton's

It is really terrible when something like this happens.

Makes you extra cautious of the roads. You can never be vigilant enough.

Something in the air - reading the Kiwi papers online there seems to have been a spate of motorists hitting cyclists to such an extent that the government are considering establishing a public inquiry.

Was that on the N1?

Saw a nasty accident on the N1 close the N7 intersection on sunday morning on the way to the burger.

Couldnt make sense of the accident, but if he was driving on the wrong side of the N1 that would make sense.

Always nasty seeing dead bodies on the road.

Normally see them on the way to races, roads are probably still too full of drunk oaks coming home from somewhere.
