  1. Memorial ride for Alex Otto tomorrow AM.... (also see: https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2021-10-04-cycling-community-reeling-after-horror-crash/)
  2. Third 'foreign' debutant. In total there are six, if you include English batsmen...
  3. And Zimbabwean-born Colin de Grandhomme.
  4. Devon Conway, a former Gauteng player, frustrated with a lack of opportunities in South Africa, made the call to move to NZ and pursue his cricket dreams. Today he debuted in Test Cricket becoming only the third debutant to score a century at Lord's (https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/black-caps/125325751/black-caps-v-england-devon-conway-produces-magical-debut-century-at-lords). Whilst CSA lurches from disaster to disaster, driving talent away, it seems a new favoured destination for neglected players is NZ: https://www.sportsadda.com/cricket/features/devon-conway-south-africa-new-zealand-profile-west-indies-series NZ starts this test with three SA-born cricketers: Conway, Neil Wagner and BJ Watling.
  5. My shoulders should be broad enough????.. best of luck.
  6. Nope, no such thing as a free lunch (unless you're a cadre, of course). They charge a fee and then advise you of all the requirements - you submit to them; they vet your application and supporting documents to make sure there are no gaps, and once this is ticked off they submit on your behalf. Basically, they walk you through the entire process (and often do a lot of the legwork themselves). The fee was pretty nominal (less than what they advertised on their website) and within a month or so payment was received. The online UIF portal of the Department of Labour is pretty much useless and I have heard too many stories of people having to go to the DoL offices and stand in queues for hour upon hour, month upon month. They took this pain away! You better hurry though, my understanding is that you can only claim within one year... BTW, I have no vested interest in UIF Simplicity; just a satisfied client. Feel free to DM me if you have any queries or require any additional details.

  13. Indeed, oxidane, whilst recognised by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is not commonly used and DHMO seems to be used mostly in jest - just as this oldie but a goodie reminds us.... https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/501907/14-year-old-who-convinced-people-ban-dihydrogen-monoxide

  18. Verdict?
  19. Hard hitting? Perhaps on some aspects... Sure municipal debt is a primary contributor to the state that Eskom finds itself in; but to state that political interference is the root of all evil at the parastatal is somewhat disingenuous. How about the 100 Senior Managers who have refused to be subject to a lifestyle audit? (https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/100-eskom-managers-dont-want-to-be-vetted-state-security-agency-20191015) Does the Board have no influence on this? How about independent reports which stipulate that Eskom is overstaffed by 30,000 employees rather than the 15,000 being stated - and that they are all overpaid!? (https://businesstech.co.za/news/energy/261647/huge-number-of-job-cuts-on-the-way-at-eskom-report/) How about their own employee's being implicated in illegal connections? (https://ewn.co.za/2019/03/04/exclusive-eskom-employee-makes-r20k-per-month-on-illegal-power-connections) The Board has been ineffectual and, quite frankly, poor. There seems to be little to no technical knowledge within the Board. Instead of complaining to parliament and the media; and seeking unsustainable increases from NERSA they should be implementing the changes needed to begin salvaging this (rapidly) sinking ship.
  20. Remake of a classic for a good cause...
