  1. Memorial ride for Alex Otto tomorrow AM.... (also see: https://www.timeslive.co.za/news/south-africa/2021-10-04-cycling-community-reeling-after-horror-crash/)
  2. Third 'foreign' debutant. In total there are six, if you include English batsmen...
  3. And Zimbabwean-born Colin de Grandhomme.
  4. Devon Conway, a former Gauteng player, frustrated with a lack of opportunities in South Africa, made the call to move to NZ and pursue his cricket dreams. Today he debuted in Test Cricket becoming only the third debutant to score a century at Lord's (https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/black-caps/125325751/black-caps-v-england-devon-conway-produces-magical-debut-century-at-lords). Whilst CSA lurches from disaster to disaster, driving talent away, it seems a new favoured destination for neglected players is NZ: https://www.sportsadda.com/cricket/features/devon-conway-south-africa-new-zealand-profile-west-indies-series NZ starts this test with three SA-born cricketers: Conway, Neil Wagner and BJ Watling.
  5. My shoulders should be broad enough????.. best of luck.
  6. Nope, no such thing as a free lunch (unless you're a cadre, of course). They charge a fee and then advise you of all the requirements - you submit to them; they vet your application and supporting documents to make sure there are no gaps, and once this is ticked off they submit on your behalf. Basically, they walk you through the entire process (and often do a lot of the legwork themselves). The fee was pretty nominal (less than what they advertised on their website) and within a month or so payment was received. The online UIF portal of the Department of Labour is pretty much useless and I have heard too many stories of people having to go to the DoL offices and stand in queues for hour upon hour, month upon month. They took this pain away! You better hurry though, my understanding is that you can only claim within one year... BTW, I have no vested interest in UIF Simplicity; just a satisfied client. Feel free to DM me if you have any queries or require any additional details.
  7. Pretty useful link here: https://www.cyclingnewzealand.nz

  9. With respect to post counts, is this an issue that will be eventually be resolved or do we need to request some type of recount? My count seem to have lost 300+
  10. Here's the report that is being shared on Twitter: https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/other/durban-man-arrested-and-fined-for-not-wearing-mask-while-jogging/ar-BB1dTK9h
  11. Some chatter on social media concerning a runner who was arrested in Durbs for running without a mask. My understanding was that anyone undertaking 'strenuous' exercise was exempt from wearing a mask. Anyone know what is the current (legal) standing regarding masks and exercise? I note on my weekend rides in the Cradle, mask wearing cyclists are about as rare as an honest ANC politician...
  12. First heard this in a spinning class - worked well!
  13. Sound like your average Cabinet member...
  14. Taking a steer from Morne, have reposted this outside of Chit Chat. Any guidance much appreciated...
  15. HI Hubbers, The 15 year old daughter of one of our helpers is currently walking to school, which is approximately 10km from their residence. They are seeking a bicycle to make this journey not so arduous. From what I can gather, a 'Chinese bike" was previously bought but it didn't last - so I guess what is needed is a pretty robust bike - one that can take the bumps, potholes and weather whilst not being a target of the criminal element. Any advice on the best place to source such a beast? Given that the cost is probably coming out of my pocket, would appreciate that any suggestions take into account value for money! I am in the Fourways/Magaliessig area. Cheers, Lou

  18. Indeed, oxidane, whilst recognised by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry is not commonly used and DHMO seems to be used mostly in jest - just as this oldie but a goodie reminds us.... https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/501907/14-year-old-who-convinced-people-ban-dihydrogen-monoxide
  19. Perfectly balanced. A massive chip on each shoulder...
  20. Tom Dumolin is out - citing fatigue after making a comeback this year after a long string of injuries...
  21. Funds cleared in about three hours... so far so good
  22. Ahh, maybe next time - let's see how FNB performs. If need be not afraid to switch!
  23. Based on a fairly high-level comparison of the major banks looking at the features offered that are a best-fit for my business model I narrowed it down to the following: Capitec/MercantileFNBABSAAs explained above, there was a disconnect between Capitec and myself (still waiting for contact to be made The person I spoke to at ABSA seemed fairly apathetic and didn't seem to care that a) I currently banked with them; and b) I wanted to bring more business their way! They took my number and said one of their consultants would call me back. That was Thursday... FNB were enthusiastic. The guy I spoke to wanted to open the account over the phone after I confirmed the company had been registered with both CIPRO and SARS. In the end, due to the nature of the business, it was decided the best course of action was to set up a one-to-one meeting with a business banking consultant at the branch nearest to me. This was arranged for the very next morning and by mid-morning Friday I had a business account with FNB. The payment was made last night (from abroad) and FNB have a rather drawn-out procedure to validate the payment. Nonetheless, this has been done - now the proof will be in the pudding to see how long it takes for them to clear the funds ... stay tuned.
