Rant off. Dunkeld called to make the situation right, see my last post.

Ok time for a rant.....

Took my bike in for a service about a month ago, front shock wasn't locking out and had some issues with my brakes..... Strike 1: They hold the bike for two weeks waiting for a seal for the shock which it didnt need as the shock is only 3 months old.... Tell me to come get the bike its "all sorted". I ride it, front shock still not locking out and brakes no better with far too much play on the rear brake lever, almost touching the handlebar when I pull it.

Strike 2: Take it back to them, tell them to take their time and get it right... one week later I pick it up and rode it this morning.... rode 40kms with the worst rear brake rub and squeaking.... aargh......

Oh and all of this for the bargain basement price of R1100!

Actually not even going to bother with taking the bike back again, its obvious that they don't have a cooking clue what they are doing... Dunkeld epic fail!

Next step for me a proper bike mechanic toolkit and a mechanic's course. If you want it done right....

If you paid by credit card, can't you put in a query(I don't know what it is called)?

I have heard you can undo the payment because they did not provide the service or product as promised.

Does anyone know about this?

I haven't used them for servicing but I sent them an email asking about a product on 26/11/2010. I am still waiting for a response.

I sent a similar email to Northcliff Cycles the same day and got a reply from Alex on the 1/12/2010 apologising for the delay as he was at the DC and giving me the info. I would much rather go to Northcliff now than Dunkeld.

You have to take it back and demand to speak to the head of affairs there. You paid for the service and they must deliver. You just cut your own nose by not going back there.

My 2c worth

Sorry Andy I like you but what is wrong with a phone call ?

If my lbs. wasn't around anymore I would use Dunkeld.

Bike industry no different than any other.

You p@ss off one customer and you loose 10. You keep 100 happy and you may gain 1.

Wrong mechanic on the wrong day. I had poor service from guys that never let me down before as well. Leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Everybody makes mistakes, it is how they react to your complain that shows their character. Looks like they reacted badly. Pitty.

I only use Dunkeld as have only had great service from them. Why dont you address the matter with Mark or Merlyn before spending more money as they will come to the party. If you want really expensive service then go to Mikes Bikes. Can get you a reference from a non hubber who definitly wont be using Mikes Bikes again.

Its a pitty you had such a bad experience at Dunkeld. I have been using them for years and only had great service and really feel that the guys go out of their way to help. I took my wheel in on Monday to get a broken spoke repaired and told them not to rush as I only need it before the weekend. They phoned me Monday lunch time to say the wheel is ready for collection. They also helped me out big time when my road bike shifter packed up. I bought it second hand and it was already a few years old. They somehow arranged a warranty replacement and I got two new shifters no charge!!

I think all bike shops drop the ball every now and again, but on balance I think Dunkeld is still a good set up.
