Guys,

looking at this post you may as well have made the title Chinese 32gi or Chinese power balance. hahahhaha

the reason i say this is because it subject to opinion and those with an opinion should be the ones who speak from experience of a product and not have an opinion based on some preconceived thoughts or prejudice.

this said, here are a couple of facts:

almost no carbon bikes are made in France or Italy or USA, this is because no little old italian man is churning out 4 million bikes a year from a little factory in Torino.

the simple fact is that a factory that is producing high quality and high quality of bikes at scale are all in ASIA now days.

What good engineering and design comes down to at the end of the day is Quality Control of your product.

And this is my Experience:

This is were Black Spade is exceptional. You can have all 3. Quality, Strength, Lightweight.

this is because the guys that sell Black Spade collectively have well over 50 years combined bicycle experience, from racing, supply, retail, service and custom building and are able to bring you a high quality product without a middle man and thus at a very competitive price.

the designs are simple yet very striking and everybody on the road loves the bikes, the wheels are strong and they have many different options to choose from.

they are the only guys i know, that can build a full custom bike for you off your spec list, at a price you can afford. they give all the brands with custom options a real hard time when it comes to design and customizing.

i have a blackspade. it's super sick at just 7.2 kg with rival its amazing.

Um.... I thought Black Spade was a guy/guys buying unbranded frames from China/Taiwan/Somewhere and basically painting, kitting them out and selling them? Not to disparage anyone but that's really not 50 years of experience, don't even think carbon has been used for bikes past maybe 12 years? Or is it a case of the owners having ridden bikes collectively for 50 years? And just out of curiosity, does Black Spade design the bikes or just purchase off the shelf?

I think he means the people running BSR have collectively 50 years experience in cycling and related fields. Carbon frames have been around for over 20 years.

Really! I didn't know that. Would be interesting to see some older carbon frames, wonder if they still around or are just bit's and pieces now. Would certainly go some way to showing the durability of carbon.

Just worked it out that my family have round about 100 years of cycling experience (collectively lol). I love marketing speak.

From what I saw the BlackSpade is a carbon frame made by GOTOBIKE...well at least the 29er...the same as what Kiwi want to bring in.

GOTOBIKE has been testing their 29er carbon for a about a year now and has finaly got all the things ok'ed to mass manufacture and sell. As far as I know they still only have a 17 and 19" available and working on the rest of the 29er range.

They also have many other carbon parts and frames and are have very good prices...500US for a carbon 29 er frame for excample and if you take more than 10 (I think) it comes down to 400 us..

Kestrel had a lugless one and Trek a lugged one in 1986.

Don't forget the TVT Carbon from late eighties / early nineties "Z" used to race them as well as rebranded ones for Banesto and BIG MIG.

Just remember, if you buy anything direct from China then pay by credit card (or maybe paypal but I am not sure), if you pay by Western Union or EFT you could be dealing with a Nigerian and then don't be suprised when your package never arrives.

Guys, i am not going to keep posting here to create a Mass Debate. but the experience of riders who have riden and played with bikes for so long is a huge advantage to those selling bikes that dont even ride or just want a sales job in some bike shop.

All i am saying is that a good relationship with a supplier or factory in the east can result in a fantastic product. with feedback to the factory and the ability to get them to make changes for you is an advantage for you guys looking to buy a decent bike with a great warranty and awesome performance.

lets stay on topic here, i think the real question was the strength and life of the product? if somebody is prepared to spend loads of cash starting a brand and offer a 2 yr warranty then this is somebody i want to do business with for years to come.

Black Spade is not just an off the shelf chinese bike with some fancy stickers on it. There is time and money invested in bringing a high QC product to SA for you okes to enjoy, race and be Number 1.

Peace in 2011????

I dont want to start a debate, but I am interested in this comment. I have been seeing this frame around on that surpliers website for a LONG time and it the SAME frame that Kiwi wants to bring in, thus how can it be that time and money was invested?

Just curious

It seems that you guys are looking at MTB's, but out of experience and being in the business for many years I learning from my old man that has been in the trade for over 40 years . I rate the Cannondale CAAD 9 or CAAD 10 better than 90% of your cheap carbon frames out there. Period.
